Spending summers on the Mornington Peninsula as a child gave me a lifelong love of the bay beaches of Port Phillip Bay and the birds that live there. Even though they are 'everywhere' in this landscape, there is nothing ordinary about the seagull - it is a beautifully-coloured and streamlined bird with a haunting cry that takes me back to hot days on the sand.
