MF Doom is by far my favourite contemporary poet. His distinctive voice and complex and rhymes have made him a huge influence on me personally as an artist but also countless other contemporary rappers and hip hop artists. For the better part of 30 years Doom chose to take a different approach to hip hop and rap, not only in terms of sounds and samples but also steering clear of the usual topics of drugs, money and sex, instead he created entire stories and sagas about characters that would develop and change across different albums. He used his iconic mask as a way of transforming himself into these different characters and telling these incredible stories through rap.
Its sad that he's gone, I hope that people out there will continue to take notes from his ways of creating art. it would be a shame to lose an art form like that.
