I am not a religious person, which is strange given the name of this work. It is the first in a series I will title "The Little Gods". I am a very scientific person for the most part, but this is an exploration of the concept of what it is that gives a person their 'spirit' or 'soul', I look at each of these portraits as different traits of a person, good and bad, right and wrong...we talk about aspects of our personality that make up who we are ( insecurities, strengths, jealousy, doubts, curiosities, love, pain etc)but what if you gave them a face? what if by giving them a face you could better understand aspects of yourself?
which would have the most power over you? or would you have power over? Everyone has their little gods, gods of good and evil within them....I aim to paint and talk to mine in order to learn new things about myself, to overcome fears, build on strengths, accept past mistakes and move forward. Would it not be the most powerful thing to acknowledge the different aspects (spirits) of ones own being, including your own devils..and worship them in the sense that you could overcome past hurdles, learn from them and find a new sense of self? what if you are your own god? That sounds arrogant but for some people out there, to reflect, praise, critique or better understand themselves is exactly what they need to 'become' themselves....whether that be who they are going to be in future, or to reclaim something they lost in themselves from the past.
This is my god of doubt. I dont worship him as much anymore.
