This work is the first in what i am calling the One Take series. The portrait on the canvas is created without a draft sketch or preconceived idea of how it will look. The only thing that I've put any real thought into is the background colours, in this case blush, turquoise and navy-ish colour. This method of creating the portrait for me feels very pure in a way, the idea of the face takes shape as i move the pen across the canvas which means i don't spend time deciding on the ideal facial features or placement of lines etc. The portrait is what it is, theres no other sketches or drafts of it, its the original and only version, flaws and all.
