At some point or another we have all seen it, perhaps even done it ourselves...the late nights of lowered inhibitions where uncomfortable truths are told, emotions are acknowledged, limits are reached and the unresolved pains come to light. It makes me sad that for many people out there that alcohol is the medium for which these things are delivered. Im all for the late night deep and meaningful conversation with a friend and a beer, but how many of us do it sober? I wonder if the reason some people drink is too sink into and acknowledge those emotions. Has anyone considered the effects of that on ones physical and mental health? Maybe we should talk to our friends sober about the stuff we pass off as "shit talkin" when theyre intoxicated. Political, personal who cares what, if the only way its being expressed is under the influence it leads down a dark road.
Talk to your friends about their hang ups on a past relationship if they have them, or a political stance if they feel nervous to say, who they my be coming out as, they may feel lonely, at a loss, abused, or maybe they just need to have someone listen.
But do it without the preface of "yeah can I get a vodka orange?" or "Oi bro how f*cked am I!?"
That is the first line of every ten drink deep swan song of the night, have those conversations sober so they aren't forgotten or a blurred mess.
It serves more of a purpose than just drunken ramblings. It may save a life in some small way.
