This highly textured and vibrant artwork is about the women’s birthing cave, a place of women’s business in Wollombi, west of Cessnock NSW. The site is a sandy bottomed cave, close to water and an abundance of provisions. The place is found through following directions from the map site, depicting the Emu Women whose middle finger points in the direction of the ridge to be followed, engraved in rock it lays only a short distance from the site. The piece is made up of traditional Aboriginal symbols representing women and the women’s cave, while the small circles flowing out from this reflects babies or infants.
