I live near Jarrah/Marri forests in Western Australia and there's always something that inspires me on my wanderings. These Banksias grow as large trees with their leaves creating a candelabra effect. Then they produce these large candle like flower buds before they burst into flower.
The texture of the tree trunks are rough and grow at angles. I have tried to capture the feel of the bark. Small creatures can easily camouflage against the detail of these trees. Can you see the bug I have painted in?
This painting has a slightly textured undercoat to add to the roughness of the bark of this Banksia.
