Red is for lovers everywhere and this red flower is gorgeous and unique. It is the Red Lechenaultia or Lechenaultia formosa. It is the floral emblem of Kojonup in Western Australia, but grows over a wide area from near the South Australian border to Geraldton in the mid west of WA. The colours range from yellow to orange to red. I grew this one in my garden and it turned out a rich velvety crimson.
Can you see in one photo, the actual size of the flower compared with the size of the painting? They are tiny flowers, so it was good to have an actual specimen and a magnifying glass. You will see so much more detail in real life.
Showing friends this painting will prove that Australia really does have the best wildflowers.
