Contemporary surf art painting called Kiss It Goodbye by artist Scott Denholm.
This piece, Kiss It Goodbye, continues on the theme as the first painting of my Elevation series, They Called It Paradise with the names of both paintings taken from the lyrics of the epic Eagles song, The Last Resort.
The theme of the song and to a degree the entire album runs parallel with the message of my paintings, especially this one. No matter where on the planet, the natural environment and indigenous cultures have been pushed to the brink, in the name of progress and expansion. And it’s well documented that this is also the case in the final frontiers. The encroachment of modern civilisation is evident even in the most obscure corners of the planet – even the most remote of surf breaks. From the poor health of the oceans, destruction of surf breaks, plastic pollution there’s an endless list of issues.
My hope is for surf breaks like this to be conserved and protected indefinitely.
“They called it paradise, I don’t know why
You call some place paradise, kiss it goodbye”
