Artwork Description

Acrylic Paint on canvas, stretched and ready to hang.

Signed on the back.

Inspired by my invitation to exhibit at No Vacancy Gallery In Melbourne, to a theme of Women., Work and Wandering, this painting depicts a sex worker. She is seen in a pose of ecstasy...whilst her client leaves, his jacket thrown nonchalantly over his shoulder. There is a chair but she sits on the floor. This painting challenges our perceptions of sex work,

Can it be enjoyable? Is it really a lower...a lesser form of work? Can we accept that for some, it represents empowerment and independence. Without suggesting that sex work is an easy choice, it is - in my experience a choice that some women make to allow for financial independence and autonomy. No different to choosing to be a cleaner or a shop keeper.
