This brightly coloured painting depicts a mother carrying a child on her hip. The child is represented by negative space, or might be perceived, alternatively, as a dark skinned baby held by a Caucasian woman.
This image emerged from the background - itself inspired by the color and movement of a market place or urban landscape. For me personally it evokes memories of my time in Zambia, caring for the child of very dear friends. This is more poignant for the fact that this child's parents succumbed to AIDs. This painting was done as a collaborative exercise with my fellow artist and friends Alyce Procter .
The artwork is framed in a simple white shadow frame.
