Inspired by the stunning cathedral termite mounds of the Top End, Litchfield National Park, Northern Territory.
Staring at the mounds, jutting into space - each with a unique personality and features, bustling with life and energy - I contemplate the world that exists inside; the tunnels, the hollows, the chambers, the incredible patterns created by and for the busy daily activities of these creatures.
Spending time in nature, slowing down to take in and appreciate our incredible and unique environment is an essential part of my artistic practice; both as a source of inspiration and also as a necessary part of my creative process.
Immersing myself in the surroundings, I quiet my mind and narrow my focus to concentrate on a specific detail or aspect of that place; as small as a leaf, as large as a canopy. In doing so a world of hidden beauty is often revealed. I begin to notice the intricacies, irregularities and the curious, complex living worlds often overlooked.
I seek to capture and express, through my own artistic language, the feeling of my experience in, or the unique features of, a specific place and time.
