This painting was inspired by a holiday I had in Hawaii. A standout feature of this painting for me is the palm trees and the sand leading up to the water.
I used sap green, alizarine and titanium white paint to creat this painting. I thought many times about changing the colour of the water to blue or grey so that it reflected more of reality and would then cater to people’s sensitivities towards seeing things how they know them to be. And when I say people’s sensitivities I mean mine. The green water makes me feel uncomfortable - but that’s the point, so I left it as is.
