Years ago I was in Seville and stayed at the Gran Melia Colon. After checking in we go up the lift to the floor our room was on. The lift door opened and sitting there was this couch lighted up by a lovely tall lamp. We had been travelling Europe for a while, in and out of hotels and I remember being surprised - none of the other hotels we stayed in bothered to furnish their lift lobbies. I was beginning to feel home sick and it was just lovely to see, it probably sounds silly but it made the hotel feel like we were staying in someones home rather than a hotel.
So I took a photo (as you do when you are on holidays) and decided to paint it when we got back home to Australia.
