Artwork Description

Acrylic on canvas board

Signed on the front.

I once played the part of "Lucky" on stage in "Waiting For Godot". I am also a fan of Alfred Hitchcock and his films, particularly the time he collaborated with Salvador Dali. I always thought the play suggested a Dali style setting. The idea of what "Godot" may look like when he arrived appealed to me in the same way Hitchcock made his famous cameo appearances in his films. Thus, I have combined the two ideas in a painting. I did not initially attempt to make the character bear a distinct likeness to Hitchcock. I thought it might be amusing to consider that if Dali had been in charge of directing one of Hitchcock's cameos, he may have cast an actor to play Hitchcock, perhaps something like this! Whilst I could not master the technique of painting as exquisitely as Dali it was certainly an exhausting and mind bending challenge. The painting is acrylic on a "Fredrix" canvas panel. It is unframed and was painted in 1994.
