Description

The Big Scrub was a large area of rainforest stretching from the Qld border to Grafton. Most of this is gone; only small pockets and some national parks remain. Along the highway remnant rainforest can be seen on hillsides, gullies and in valleys. In the painting I'm depicting one such remaining pocket alongside the Pacific Highway. I want to remind people what has been lost from the natural world and hopefully evoke memories and feelings about this, and bring the viewer into awareness. The bright colour range serves to catch the eye and shows the diversity found in these forests; the bangalow palms are iconic trees occurring in this area.
