This painting is another work from the Remembrance series and looks at the evocative mood of swamp and wetland. My memories from encountering such places are connected with some feelings of trepidation, yet a compulsion to explore....what is hidden, what is revealed. In a similar way this painting invites exploration. The layers themselves play with the idea of revelation/hiding and I intended that the colour range of rich greens contrasting with black, expresses the deep and dark aspects of swamp wetlands, as well as the reed, grass, and plant life of the edge. Marks are also a significant feature in this work. They contain a sense of power and express small yet important details within the composition while maintaining points of interest for the eye.
