"Top paddock" is a small painting from my Remembrance series. My experience of living on the land has provided many memories of paddocks such as this one....dried grass; recently harvested crop; hard unplanted paddocks. Accompanying this image in my memory is a feeling somehow of desolation, even exposure, yet in the top left corner there is a peek of the wilder world, a small scrub coming into view, a tiny sign of hope. The little scrub's diversity adds some relief to the larger "paddock" area of paint, and it speaks of the resilience of nature. I used lighter colours to reflect the brilliance of the Australian summer landscape, and within this space there are textural areas, adding interest for the eye.
