In "Waterhole" I've used greens, blues and browns to convey the idea of a mysterious pool. Small areas of lighter colours serve to create contrast and lead the eye around the painting. The brushstrokes are free and colours are layered and mostly transparent. I like the notion of hidden depths in dark waters, although this makes for an atmosphere of uncertainty. We can also question what is hidden, what lies beneath...a bit like life!
