Artwork Description

Watercolour on paper

Signed on the front.

I loved painting this piece because it was a technical challenge for me. The front facing view of the Emu is very direct, like a portrait which I think is what makes this painting so original. I think Emu's are very unusual looking characters with their long necks, big eyes and scruffy feathers. It's was easy to give this Emu a bit of a personality while painting it. I could picture it just popping it's head up saying "Hey! Watcha doing? Where ya going? Can I come too?"

With the help of masking fluid I was able to create the detail in the fine feathers on it's head. I like to create different textures in my work and have recently been exploring that with feathers.

If you're looking for a quirky piece of art for a certain space this Emu might be the one for you.
