This painting is based on a popular Russian folk tale "Repka".
It is a progressive story, in which a grandfather plants a turnip ("repka" in Russian), which grows so large that he cannot pull it up himself. He asks the grandmother for help, and they together still cannot pull it up. Successively more people are recruited to help (the granddaughter, the dog, the cat and the mouse), until they finally pull the turnip up together.
So, I depicted all the characters according to the tale. Only one thing I have changed. There is no Turnip in my version. Now it is a fairy story for adults about .... drinking problem.
