Penny Peony is the first in the new series of floral paintings. I wanted to create a range that concentrates on a lone flower and focuses on the colours and detail in a single bloom. And no, like usual, my artworks aren't realistic so whilst this painting has been inspired by a peony, it is my interpretation of the flower.

By keeping the background white, I have been able to add a spectrum of colours in the petals. There are quite a few variations of pinks (I am counting at least 8 or 9) - with flashes of purples, bronze, copper and orange in the shadows.

The stem and leaves are a combination of brilliant green, australian yellow green, light green, pinks, oranges and my special blend of matisse green mixed with metallic gold.

Using different painting mediums, I have been able to create wonderful blends of colours that aren't on any colour palette. Please look through the close up of the images to see the myriad of soothing colours in floral.

This artwork would suit someone that loves florals but perhaps someone that wants a different type of floral on their wall. Something that is full of colour and movement but not a realistic rendering of a peony. I am sure it would look amazing as a feature artwork in your home or office.
