Coober Pedy is an isolated and remote opal mining town situated in the middle of Outback South Australia.
While traveling through this area I was struck by the the unique nature of homes or dugouts as they are known. These are excavated into hillsides so residents can escape the scorching summer days and freezing desert nights.
I was attracted by the bright colour of a potted geranium on a window sill of a window cut into the sandstone hillside. I had to capture this image of endurance against the harsh conditions and extreme desert climate.
