A lady dressed in a vintage red coat and matching scarf, looks through a pair of binoculars. What it is that takes her interest we do not know. In the background are dappled clouds and a brilliant blue sky. This painting is from a series of works called 'The Tourists'. These works were inspired by old photographs of my grandparents and depict how people enjoyed their holidays in the years after the Second World War. It was a time of hats, overcoats, travel rugs, binoculars and thermos flasks. A time of style and restraint at the beginning of our modern era of mass consumption and global travel.
The painting has a jarrah wood frame. The wooden board has been prepared using a sealer and a primer.
