I was at a meeting regarding public art galleries in Beijing in 2014 on my Red Gate Artist Residency there. This meeting was held in a 400 year old Hutong the ancient Chinese dwelling. Whilst in this old building I noticed a number of mobile phones sitting on the window sill being charged. I swapped the window sill for an antique cupboard I later saw that day at a market place. Here again is the challenge of the old culture being overwhelmed by modern China and it's growing middle ground aspirational population.
