Part of a series of paintings which depicts different doors and different openings. Personally‚ I find doors fascinating‚ as the face of a home or a place. They appear to say one thing about the place‚ but can present another upon entry.
This door is the fourth in a series of smaller rectangular canvases depicting blue themed doors. This was the final door of the series and had always been intended to be a circular door. Influences by the circular doorways/gate of Chinese and Japanese gardens‚ I decided to form this one within a domes wall. It is lit by moonlight.
The colour scheme was derived from a peacock feather which lent itself to the texture of the stone work and of the motif within the wooden door.
