- Artist statement -
I was interested in expanding my ideas around the sky as an empty space and wanted to explore different times of the day when the sky changes. The diagonal blocks of colours were to add more dynamism.

I also wanted to bring the home outlines into a bigger piece and include multiples of them to hint at homes on a sloping hillside, but not have the houses dominate and take away from the wild plants.

- Painting description -
This painting captures the serene beauty of a lush, tropical landscape, hillside enriched by the characteristic outlines of traditional Queenslander houses. The vibrant use of color, with dominant hues of deep greens, purples, and blues, suggests an early morning or twilight setting, imbuing the scene with a sense of calm and tranquility. The Queenslander houses, with their distinctive architectural features, are subtly outlined in white, blending harmoniously with the verdant surroundings and hinting at the harmonious coexistence between human habitation and nature.

The artist masterfully integrates the architectural elements with the natural environment, creating a seamless tapestry that celebrates both the beauty of the Queensland landscape and its cultural heritage. The intricate foliage, rendered in a rich palette of greens and blues, frames the houses, drawing the viewer’s eye through the painting and creating a sense of depth and perspective. The organic forms of the plants contrast with the geometric lines of the houses, yet they complement each other, illustrating the delicate balance between built and natural environments.

This piece invites viewers to reflect on the tranquility and beauty of living in harmony with nature. The Queenslander houses, known for their elevated structures and airy verandas, symbolize a way of life that embraces the outdoor environment and tropical climate. By embedding these structures within a lush, vibrant landscape, the painting evokes a sense of nostalgia and appreciation for a lifestyle deeply connected to nature. The scene, though still and quiet, teems with life and growth, offering a meditative escape and a reminder of the enduring bond between humans and their natural surroundings.
