I loved painting these little Blue Birds of happiness and took much pleasure in portraying them as playful and mischievous characters. In real life they are super fast and move so quickly it's hard to see them clearly. Because the female is so bland I painted the male with the vibrant blue. Instead of painting them on branches, I decided to put them on a wire fence in a line as if they were having a happy conversation. Because of the complex composition I used a very soft background so as not to over power the subjects.
