About

Vania Lawson is an Australian born artist residing in Perth, Western Australia. After completing her studies in Stage and Studio Techniques at Perth Technical College and WAPPA in 1989, she has worked extensively for architects & interior designers specializing in commercial, retail and display art projects. Vania’s artworks play with distinct light and texture, she is inspired by the ever-changing movement of weather conditions. In her style of artwork she builds up multiple translucent layers of colour, alternating between soft brushstrokes and large, with sweeping gestures to evoke the movement and depth in a cyclical process to produce the final image. Depth, mood, light and colour are all essential to my artworks, they drive my composition and inspire the creation of the finished piece.“Ultimately my work speak of things that are timeless and I believe that for most of us our oceans and skies represents something enduring and soothing in our lives, my hope is for people to stop, engage and delight in their natural surroundings”

Influences

Nature, Clouds, Oceans….Constant ever-changing weather conditions The tidal pull and power of the ocean makes sense to me in terms of expressing my work. I build up multiple translucent layers of colour, alternating between small and large brushstrokes, evoking crashing waves, gentle tides and stormy skies.
