What's a commissioned artwork?

This can be based on specific style, size and colours. If an artwork you love on Bluethumb has sold, a commission is the perfect option and allows you to request any changes to make it personal.

A commission is also a great option to have the perfect piece created at the exact size for the wall you need, while incorporating all the right colours of your interiors.

Free shipping and the 7-day return policy still stands for commissioned artworks. The 30% deposit is non-refundable and if you choose to return the piece, we ship the artwork back to the artist and refund 70% of the amount to you. The 30% goes to the artist in full to cover their material costs.

How can I commission an artist?

You can reach out to the artist by contacting them via their artwork page or their artist profile. Look for 'Contact', 'Ask a question' or 'Commission An Artwork' button on the artwork page, and 'Ask about a commission' button on their profile.

How do I pay for a commissioned artwork?

All payments are done online via Bluethumb. Never pay an artist directly via EFT. Once the you've agreed on the size and price, the 30% initial deposit is paid by purchasing a gift voucher on Bluethumb. You will receive detailed instructions by the artist (or the Bluethumb team).

Once the artwork is approved and ready for purchase, it will be listed online for sale and you can use the deposit voucher to pay the balance payment.

How do I receive photos for updates and approval?

Artists will send you photos and updates via Bluethumb Inbox. If you have an account on Bluethumb, you should have access to Bluethumb Inbox.

You don't need to worry about checking your Inbox often. When you receive a new message there, we also send you an email to your registered email address and an SMS (if you've opted in and provided your mobile number).

Can I see my conversation with the artist on Bluethumb for my records?

Yes! Your complete conversation will be saved in your Bluethumb Inbox.

How long does it usually take?

The commissioning process duration can vary all depending on the size, complexity and availability of the artist. Usually, it takes anywhere between a few days to a few weeks for completion.

If you're in a rush, talk to the artist and they can prioritise your project if it's possible.

Can I return a commissioned artwork?

Yes, you certainly can. The 30% deposit is non-refundable. If you choose to return the piece, we ship the artwork back to the artist and refund 70% back to you. The 30% goes to the artist in full to cover their material costs.
