Berlin, Germany. World War II.
The zookeeper's wife is Australian. Everybody, every person, every animal finds themselves prisoners a burning city in the middle the war. There is no food, not for the civilians nor for the prisoners of war, not even for the zoo residents. There is death. BERLIN BURNING is the representation of the depth of the horror there. The animals are prisoners in their cages. The smaller snake finds an egg - food - and, weak as she is, goes ahead gobbling it up. But the bigger snake will have nothing of this, he wants the egg, he eats the female snake. A heartbreak.

Silk and roses define the woman in the first panel. She is sophisticated, elegant, and smells of powder and perfume. Life is good, the cherubs sing the glory of youth and health. But the woman is also half bones and gloom because death is what happens eventually. Her angel wings will take her where she has to be. This painting works by itself, and it works coupled with the second panel presented in the pictures above (although the second panel works by itself independently also). FOR BETTER FOR WORSE is an allegory - sweet and sour - of life as it goes, for better and for worse.

This artwork functions on its own or as part of a diptych where the first panel is entitled FOR BETTER FOR WORSE represents beauty and youth flying high on the wings of angels and transmuting into death and bones. The second panel, RIDING INTO THE SUNSET, represents the way into the sunset where the cowboy / Don Quixote rides his skinny horse into the sunset, i.e. the West, the Unknown, Eternity. Don Quixote is not the typical cowboy though. He is not the saviour per se, nor the leader. But he is fun, adventurous and willing to try and discover what the future holds. He is the anchor the lady lady needs despite the fact that he is also a bit crazy, a bit naive, a bit deluded.

This is a portrait of a man and a hero. This man is exhausted but still radiates energy. He typifies the permanence and timelessness of what it its to be human as he stands up against the devastating breath of adversity, for the good of all. This painting is an organic and visceral rendering of the all-encompassing fury of the fires that every year engulf part of the country, and of the heart-wrenching fight against the elements. It has an iconic dimension, inspired by the history of our big country and the scars left on the individual psyche and the world as it is now, here. The fire-fighter here is an image of resilience and generosity and courage we can all be proud off and say thank you to.

A voodoo doll representing the Far North Indigenous population is being pricked by pins in the form of cut down syringes. Q-Health logos are on the syringes.
The doll is pushed into the earth. The earth is bleeding.
Dot work represents the Indigenous culture. The diagonal dividing lines represents two different cultures. The white hand print is representative of Colonialist Fingerprints all over the disaster of this Government initiative.
The leaves stuffed in the doll are smoking; representative of the smoking ceremony used to send the spirit of the deceased home.
For this image the smoking ceremony is being used to send a dying culture back to the earth.
Injectable substance abuse is another nail in the coffin for a culture from a lost time.
