When an artist makes a print series, they’re reproducing an original image a number of times. Prints may be handmade, whereby each print is likely to contain a degree of variation and will therefore be unique, or generated via technology, achieving a high quality, photographic version of the original work.
There are many different processes of hand-printing; they range from wood or lino-cuts to engravings and etchings to monotype and screenprinting. Katsuchika Hokusai’s famous work The Wave, for example, is a wood-block Print, whereas Andy Warhol brought the screenprint into prominence with his work depicting Marilyn Monroe.
Here at bluethumb, we have a huge collection of beautiful prints, which also tend to be a bit more affordable than other artworks. Find something the sparks your imagination in the following collection.
