About

Belinda Joynes is a West Australian artist who works predominantly in acrylics, using bold colours, patterns and spiritual iconography to create very detailed works. Each painting begins very freely and intuitively, layering the paint to illustrate a story. Fine details are then created by drawing over the top of the painting with acrylic pen. Belinda often uses figurative narratives to explore themes relating to identity, connection and relationship to place from a female perspective.

Belinda is inspired by the mythology, symbolism, history and traditional art from cultures in our past. More recently she has been exploring the expression of identity through our domestic spaces, through the lens of nostalgia, memory and pattern.
