Sydney Opera House

Sydney Opera House has been home to many of the world’s greatest artists. This architecturally unique monument has inspired countless artists, from painters to photographers. The Opera House has been depicted in many ways, including realistic and abstract interpretations. Balgownie-based photographer Geoff Birrell captures the structure in his piece titled Sailing The Fog. The white sail-shaped roof appears like a large vessel navigating the harbour in this photograph.

Bondi Iceberg Pools

The Bondi Iceberg Pools is another iconic Sydney landmark that has inspired many artists. This aquatic centre is a popular destination for swimmers and a must-see landmark for tourists. The famous turquoise pools inspire many artists, each creating a unique representation in their style and mediums. One example is Anjana RaisBondi Iceberg Pools, a texture-rich acrylic painting of the picturesque pools boarded by the ocean.

Flinders Street Station

Flinders Street is Australia’s oldest train station. Since its erection in 1854, Flinders Station has been a hub of activity and inspiration. Many artists are attracted to the historic building’s green copper dome, distinctive yellow facade, and arched entrance. In her watercolour painting, Chrysovalantou Mavroudis captures the melodic hustle and bustle surrounding the identifiable landmark.

Melbourne City Skyline

Walking along the Yarra River, day or night, it’s hard to ignore Melbourne City’s beautiful skyline. The blend of ornate heritage monuments against a backdrop of modern skyscrapers is an alluring sight. Therefore, it’s no wonder many artists feel inclined to recreate it. Jos Coufreur, for example, has painted the Princes Bridge in his signature abstract style and colourful palette.
