About

I specialize in mixed media including colored pencil, pastel and gouache, working in layers, building on one color upon the next to attain the light, shade, tone and texture that lead to a realistic effect. I mainly use gouache for fur detail and my finishing touches, like the glint in an eye, using a fine tipped watercolor paintbrush..

Scratchboard is a medium that is very exciting to work with too as it enables me to capture the realism and depth of my animal subjects even more, especially for creating realistic fur texture and for creating the contrast of light and shadow as well as achieving subtle tones.

Animals have always been dear to my heart, and at any opportunity I will use my art as a means of raising awareness of wildlife conservation. I am so grateful that as a part of my journey I have had the opportunity to travel to a national park in the deep jungles of Borneo to witness orangutans in the wild. It's experiences like these that inspire me to show that the eyes of an animal are no different to ours; that they feel emotions, are a part of loving families and are sentient beings just like us.

With each piece that I create my mission is to inspire a deeper appreciation of all of earth's creatures and to bring that warmth, connection and beauty into your living space.
