In essence, my work explores the concept of 'place' and a way of being in the world emanating from my life experience. Using the land as metaphor, layers are built up with graphite dust, charcoal, pastel and erased, and worked over again in a search for form. The process of erasure metaphorically becomes part of my palimpsest, my layers of memory. The palimpsestic technique of erasure and redrawing, establishes the interconnectedness of things, the way everything flows from something else.
My work manifests my personal experience of migration, memory, loss and renewal, a mind scape unfolding over time. Such evidence confirms both the experience of the process involved in making the drawings and my ongoing association with palimpsest, my need to give memory a place - my way of being in the world.
