About Vanessa Bertagnole

Vanessa Bertagnole, b.1983, United States, is an award-winning photographer and artist based in Brisbane. Her work is mainly concerned with the elusiveness of memory and mediated forms of communication. In abstracting digital forms, she wishes to blur the boundaries of photography and challenge the role memory and media play in shaping our identities and perceptions of reality. In a time where we rely on digital technology to deliver is accuracy and consistency, Vanessa enjoys experimenting with the artistic potential found in its failure. Her documentary work focuses on cross-cultural issues and the ways in which cultural and social identities are expressed in everyday life. Vanessa regularly exhibits throughout Australia as well as overseas and has been a finalist in many national and international art prizes.
