We all aspire for the diverse imaginary world of dreaming up fantasy which are a form of an escape path when things become to chaotic in everyday life. This is one of the main influences for Maryann Nankivell as she comes to grips that the world around her is tragically unique. Prior to taking up the paint brush she tried to hang herself in her room at home when she was 16‚ three weeks later she had taken up the paint brush and never looked back. Her work is inspirational to others.

Adelaide born Artist Maryann Nankivell was severely bullied and harassed at school as a child. Throughout her traumatic childhood she struggled to find a way to express herself in the world. She had turned to art as a way to break free from her traumatic pass and anxiety. At the age of 15 Nankivell started to incorporate birds into her art work and also‚ she manages to capture the cheeky personality of birds in each piece of work. She manages to capture flitting moments from her traumatic pass and transforms them into fantasy based landscapes that are unusual and weird.

Influences

Nankivell\'s main influences in her body of work is the late impressionism and expressionism movement of the late 19th century. Works by Van Gogh and Monet have inspired her to create dream like paintings.
