Artwork Description

Put down your iphones and find your own rabbit hole! Whimsy and serendipity are explored in chance meetings between found objects displayed on a surrealist like stage. I encourage and cajole the viewer to see the world ‘Alice like’ in order to find themselves in an imagined portal into another world.
This painting will provide a colourful and quirky surprise to any room, it works to transport the viewer to an imagined time and place. A mini holiday for the mind.

Artist Bio

Hi I'm Nicola and I'm new to Bluethumb. I am a practicing artist, Iyengar yoga teacher and cook.
I am based in Adelaide and currently I am working out of an artist run studio called Collective Haunt, located in Norwood.
I graduated from the South Australian School of Art in 1991 where I studied sculpture, painting and drawing.
I completed an Honours degree in 1996 in Screen Studies at Flinders University and after winning a ‘Young Film Makers Award’ in 1997 went on to work in the Film industry as a Production Designer in short and feature films.

I have exhibited my paintings and drawings at Tin Cat Cafe, Art Images Gallery, The Governor Hindmarsh Hotel, One Rundle Trading , The Intercontinental Hotel in Adelaide and at the Hahndorf Academy. .
I have been a finalist in the 2017 Emma Hack Art prize, 2017 prize winner at the Friends of SASA ‘Journeys’ Exhibition at Gallery M and more recently, a finalist in the 2019 Adelaide Hills Art Prize held at the Hahndorf Academy.

As a realist painter my works offer a contemporary take on traditional painting themes, adding twists and turns in order to create subtle surrealist distortions.
The ancient Greek traditions of trompe-l’oeil also inspire and puzzle the imagination. And with these themes I hope to inspire the viewer to take a visual and imagined adventure to see the world ‘through the looking glass’ of wonderment.
