Leonie paints the site of Karrku which is out West in the Ngaanyatjarra Lands. At this site, the emu came from the east running across the country, and went down into the ground. Now, Karrku is an important site to collect red ochre, used for ceremonial body painting. These ochre deposits are represented by the red circular motifs in Leonie's work. She uses fine punu (wooden sticks) to create the doing which covers the rest of the canvas in a topological rendering of the desert landscape, which she says she thought of while flying over her country in a plane.
