Personally, I am inspired by Australian landscapes combined with a sense of longing for my native land (Russia). Through my landscape paintings I attempt to reconcile the notions of the familiar and foreign, a sense of being between two places, by investigating our transitivity, the intermediate zone of native land and new home. Bringing two different places together in one painting I have attempted to capture the experiencer of seeing and inhabiting a newly imagined space, the experience where I stare into a vast distance, a distance of space and time, evoking a dreamlike sense of memory. My choice of pouring technique also links to the process of ice melting and reflects the migration experience, where movement, change and melding is a condition of relocation.
