I am an Adelaide Hills-based artist, with a deep passion for experimental creative processes. I work primarily with texture and colour to create sensory-driven, soothing tactile pieces. My most recent work leans very heavily into the realm of 3-dimensional textured work, and I seek to engage the senses on both a visual and a tactile level.
My art is quite far removed from the "neat and tidy" - in fact, it is often messy and uncontrolled. I take joy in the messy and experimental processes which I have developed over time. In the early stages of my artistic journey, I quickly realised that I find striving for realism to be too confining, and not adequately expressive of life’s quirks. I want my art to be whimsically expressive, and to differ from the normal rules of shape and colour which define how we see the world.
As a long-term sufferer of a chronic illness, my art tends to be born out of a place of darkness, in which I struggle to see the beauty in life. In those moments, I find it comforting to create some beauty and colour of my own. As a bit of a control freak and a perfectionist, it is through my art that I learn (and constantly re-learn) to relax, surrender my perfectionism, and lose myself in whatever whacky wonder appears on the canvas before me.
It is my hope that my art can introduce a little piece of colour and comfort into one home at a time.
I welcome commissions, as I love working with people to turn their creative visions into reality - please feel free to get in touch! xx
