Artist Bio

Abigail Reid

Abigail studied Visual Arts and crafts at Edith Cowan University Western Australia, majoring in printmaking. She graduated from the Western Australian Academy of performing Arts majoring in Arts Management in 1991.

Abigail paints a variety of scenes, featuring nature in the form of nautical scopes and land themes. Paintings focus on shapes and colour reflecting a particular region. Her contemporary works depicting these themes are unique in reference to Western Australian urban and natural scenes. The colours and shapes within the works identify urban density, people’s obsession with ownership of property and land, in reference to rural dwellings and how they impact on the landscape.

Her processes involve painting, scraping, inserting mixed media and rubbing back to find hidden elements within the works. The use of gold and silver leaf are evident in her works in addition to a variety of acrylic and oils. Abigail’s work is additionally summarised with the use of printmaking and lino cuts.

Inspired by colour, water and landscape, she creates aerial works through google maps and independent research associated with land/ coastal areas. This research explores natural landscape colours, urban landscape and changing seasons.

Works depicted by Abigail are associated with areas of the country that are continually being populated with urban density.

Most of Abigail’s work focuses on the aspect of nature, the sea and the surrounding environment.
