This cartoon beach & sea scene shows many different people & aspects of this bay. It breathes summer into the room.
I drew this during the pandemic lock-down because it is priceless to be able to enjoy the breeze & waves which nature provides regardless of any crisis people may experience. We often take these pleasures for granted until they are somehow limited or denied to us.
The tile was chosen as it symbolises the harshness of modern life but also because it is durable enough to be outdoors in the weather with little damage.
Crayon was chosen to reflect the carefree days we remember of childhood & childishness, with it`s simplicity under-lined by sheer "living in the moment" happiness. This contrasts with the rigidity we often experience as adults, particularly during this difficult period of Covid-19 restrictions & dangers.
Crayon is a soft, malleable medium which reflects our inner child, our deep softness as humans who feel all the emotions but usually cover with a hard outer layer for protection. This shell of protection is represented by the coating of the artwork in lacquer to protect it from harsh elements that would otherwise interrupt the innocence of the scene.
I have signed the bottom right front of this piece with my hot pink capital letter A logo in paint, beneath & also protected by the lacquer. It is signed & dated on the back. A certificate of authenticity is provided.
