A prolific outlaw in the area around Bathurst/Sandy Creek/Canowindra responsible for approximately one hundred hold-ups and robberies though never personally responsible for a single death. Entire towns were held up, on one occasion his gang held up the Robinson Hotel in Canowindra where the patrons were well-treated and entertained during their 'stay'. Hall was killed in a police ambush in the early dawn of May 5, 1865 while trying to leave New South Wales after being sold out by an associate near Goobang Creek. Having been shot about thirty times he yelled out to the police 'I am wounded, shoot me dead'', dying soon after. He was twenty-seven.
