…
An unclosed letter loop,
Be it an a or b or d or an e.
Mispelt word in a bestseller book.
Grain of coffee on a new kitchen bench.
Crooked picture on the wall.
Showroom car with a scratch up the side.
Door that won’t latch.
Tick of a screw stuck deep in a tire.
Splinter buried deep, untouchable,
Germ under skin soon septic she goes
Rock in the shoe wedged hard between toes.
Face crystal clear
Name long forgot,
A missing puzzle piece
Or a piece too many
Nail that won’t budge no matter how hard
One tries to drive in nor will it come out.
Candle in the midnight black
Does infuriate the dark
Swallow up will it try
But cannot when steadfast
Will one stand and say no
I will not to the enslaver
Comply.

P.S; every house or building built post 1982 should have a circular stained glass window tinted purple, blue and green with a few lightning bolts thrown in for good taste and measure, facing the east so if a missing adventurous chellovek get lost they can read it like a roadmap and know, just which way leads up and out the cellar. The wolf has her den down there and she’s licking her chops, waiting for the traveller to come back down and when he does as they often do, it’s chomp chomp, down the old gullet. The misadventurous traveller can’t comply his way out of the slofie’s fangs. No way Jose! The only complying down there is the one-way slow road along the G.I Highway. You know you shouldn’t be down there. No way, but the mangy snarling bitch keeps calling the weary and worn traveller back, promising you, our dear traveller all sorts of goodies and freedoms. Her mad eyes are hypnotising, and it’d be so easy. So warm down there. ….. which way does the traveller go?

Page 3. Congratulations dear reader. You have braved the elements but wound up dead anyway. Constant radioactive fuzz powered by your 5G phone in your pocket has riddled you with cancer. Thanks for coming.
Page 22. Congratulations dear reader. You have taken the easy way out and returned to the wolves den. You cannot as you watch yourself torn to shreds believe the snarling old bitch deceived you. She promised coming back down was the safe and right thing to do. Before the black engulfs you watch as the Cubs emerge from the darkness, faces illuminated by the screen of your smartphone. A message pops up. An announcement regarding the release of the new bionically insertable smart gadget that keeps you updated on your next round of jabby-jabs at Dr Floovax’s Eugenics Clinic around the corner. It’s available next Friday, only $1999, about the same cost of a tank of fuel in your little 4-cylinder buzz box you can no longer afford to register. Your vision fuzzes out and the snarls of the hungry wolves sounds miles away. The last thing our weary traveller sees is momma wolf, her eyes dancing wildly, her mouth twisted up in a hideous grin. Thanks for coming.
