Artwork Description

The consume series explores human nature and the symbolic meaning of fruit in the tradition of Dutch still life paintings of the 16th and 17th century. Continuing the customs of vanitas painting, the work investigates decay, opulence and greed. The engaging addition of human subjects forces the audience to question the motives of the characters as well as wider human behaviour. How often do we act without the forethought of our future wellbeing?

This framed print is limited edition, 1 of 1.

Artist Bio

My earliest memories are of myself creating art, making patterns on my grandmother’s floor with her seashell collection and composing comic strips at footy games instead of watching the sport itself. Most of my time at school was spent drawing pictures for friends in the back of class. So when I finished high school, I felt drawn to enroll into National Art School, Sydney in 2007. Here I began studying photography and formed a love for the modern masters, Bill Henson, Richard Avedon and Gregory Crewdson.

Throughout college, I was always interested in people as a subject matter. However after graduating, I discovered a new love, photographing landscape and nature; ironically drawn to the absence of people. In recent years, my interest has been reignited and I now find myself working in studio portraiture; contemplating lighting configurations, pondering editing methods and calling on my friends to model for me.

My inspiration is rooted in traditional art genres, particularly painting; the drama of baroque, the compositions of still life and the religious undertones of romantic landscapes. I aim to recreate the aesthetics of these time-honoured styles through the photographic medium, exploring themes of human nature, spirituality and balance.

The arts are my life. I am an art teacher, a musician and a photographer; follow my journey here as I share my artwork with you.
