Artwork Description

The portrait was underpainted in grisaille. After drying, the skin colours are applied with a four layers of a thin, oily glaze. Each coat was left to dry before the next layer was applied.
Glazing skin tones creates a transparent and beautiful glow of realistic looking skin that is impossible to achieve by simply using a direct painting method.
