I created this piece in response to the current climate here within Victoria due to COVID-19. Becoming a father just weeks before the lockdowns hit was incredibly tough, not just for me but for my wife who has her family back in Germany. Whilst it's been the best year for me with the arrival of our daughter, it's been incredibly challenging not being able to share this with our family and friends. This work reflects the hopelessness, despair and frustration I've battled through this year. The room with no windows, no outlook, with a glimmer of hope in the flowers which are ultimately wilting. There is no one present in the room, apart from evolving shapes and shadows. It's a headspace that I've found myself in a lot this year, and it helped to recreate it on canvas, so that I could further dissociate from that place, and be more present and involved in my growing family. The artwork is framed in a handmade anthracite coloured float frame.
