'Blocks No. 2', by Aimee Rytenskild, was created as part of a continual series of work that is characterised by bold, vivid blocks of color and and texture. Defined and stark lines of color are broken by paint drips and frenzied brush strokes, resulting in a beautiful contrast between the different styles of application.
This piece also takes inspiration by the shapes and negative spaces found in the bushland that overlooks my home in the South West, notably the contours of the branches from a Banksia tree, which can be seen throughout the piece.
'Blocks No. 2' represents a departure from my previous style of abstraction, incorporating more considered shapes and line work that create additional layers and visual contrasts. Sharp lines and geometrical shapes are combined with more organic paint applications, resulting in an interesting juxtaposition.
This piece is colorful, bold, and full of unexpected textures and layers of paint, and will offer its viewer a different visual takeaway each day.
